CARE At Acorn Care Homes

Here are some helpful information about the Care and Services we provide in our homes as well as some Frequently Asked Questions

Covid regulations; We operate within govt Covide guidelines and rules.

Meals: The widely varied menu of wholesome food takes into account the personal preferences of the Residents. Fully comprehensive meal service is provided which consists of; breakfast, morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea, and high tea. Drinks and snacks are also available on request. Meals can be taken in the spacious dining room which has been designed and constructed to a very high standard.

Visitors: Visitors are welcome to dine with Residents by arrangement. A small fee may be charged for meals taken. Visitors are welcome throughout the day and can stay as long as they wish. Please ask your visitors to sign the Guest Book at Reception when they arrive.

Bathing: There are specially equipped bathrooms with a variety of aids to enable Residents having difficulty to bathe in safety and comfort.

Hair Care: We have a Hairdressing Salon which is available for the use of the Residents, there is a hairdresser who visits the Home and offers a full range of services, and charges applicable for this service are available on request.

Eye Care: We can arrange for an optician to visit the Home as necessary, but if you need to visit a consultant we will arrange any necessary appointments for you.

Denture Care: We can arrange as necessary a home visit to have your dentures refitted and repaired, or, if you prefer an appointment can be made to visit to visit the dentist.

Wheelchairs: Should you need a wheelchair you are encouraged to bring your own. Alternatively, we will be happy to liaise with your Doctor in providing one for you. We can also arrange for it to be repaired as necessary.

Hearing Aids: We can arrange for your hearing aid to be repaired and can obtain a replacement battery.

Progressive Mobility: Tailored fitness and exercise programs arranged for the residents

Electronic Care Plans: We use Electronic Care Plans tailored around individual needs.

Face time consultation: Family meetings, District Nurses consultation, other professionals such as GP are available over FaceTime.

Nurse Call: There is a call button in every room which is linked to several stations throughout the building. Assistance is available 24 hours a day.

Newspapers: Several daily and weekly newspapers are provided, Should you wish to order your own newspaper or magazine we can arrange this for you, a charge is made for this service. Talking newspapers can be obtained if you are registered blind.

Library: We have a small library that you can choose from, which is replenished by the Mobile Library service. You can choose which type of books you would like to have available including large print books. There is also a large video library to choose from.

Television: There are several lounges, each of them comfortably furnished and some are equipped with television and hi-fi systems. There is also a room where you may wish to take your visitors or read quietly. There are T.V. points in each bedroom should you wish to bring your own television.

Entertainment: Special emphasis is placed on providing recreational activities and light entertainment both in and out of the home. Outings to places of interest are organised on a regular basis in our own personal minibus, free of charge. Residents may participate in activities within the home throughout the week. We would be happy to receive any suggestions for events or outings.

Services: we work very closely with professionals such as Psychiatric units, Physiotherapists, District Nurses, GP’s, etc.

Laundry: A personal laundry service is catered for inclusively. Residents are requested to clearly mark or label all clothing to avoid possible loss.

Telephone Calls: If you wish to make or receive a telephone call there is a telephone available for your personal use. Alternatively, we can arrange for you to have your own telephone installed in your bedroom. Cost to be borne by the Resident.

Religion: Regular services of different denominations are conducted within the Home. If you wish to participate in any of these please feel free to do so. We can also arrange for you to attend a local service at church.

Fire Regulations: Fire drills will take place every three months and an alarm bell will sound. It is important that you tell a member of staff if you are going out and when you expect to return, also ensure all visitors sign the Guest Book in Reception when arriving and leaving the building.

Insurance: Any valuable or treasured possessions bought into the Home will need to be insured. Items are automatically insured for a sum of £500 per claim. Please notify us of any additional cover required.

Post: Your post will be given to you each day. We will be pleased to post any mail for you and stamps are available at the office.

Shopping: We will be pleased to assist you with any shopping you may require by providing shopping trips into town. If this is difficult members of staff will purchase items at your request.

Chiropody: We can arrange for a chiropodist to visit the home. Or you may visit the local clinic.

Residents Diet: Food allergies, diabetic care, gluten-free vegan diet or any other special need can be catered for.

When you contact us, we can talk about the cost of care at our homes and the different types of funding that may be available. We will help you with any inquiries you may have.

Acorn Care Homes are a family concern which is owned and operated by Dr & Mrs Garala and is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for both male and female of the following categories (OP) Old Age (DE) dementia and who are from the age of 50 years.
The owners at Elizabeth House have over 25 year’s experience in caring industry. All staff are fully trained in all areas of care delivery and have annual updates to ensure we are up to date with all current and new legislation. The staff have in house training, Plus external training on Lifting & Handling, Food hygiene, Health & Safety, First aid, Handling and Administration of Medication, Dementia Awareness, Safe guarding vulnerable adults, Fire safety, Palliative care,Care practices, and NVQ level 2 and level 3. The Care Manager & Deputy Managers have NVQ level 5 & Level 4.
Registered Manager is Rupal Patel QCF LEVEL 5, Care Manager Sharon Jones QCF LEVEL 4. Staff are available 24 Hours a day. In an emergency additional staff are also available on call. All Staff have an enhanced DBS check

You may wish to bring certain items of furniture which will be accommodated for wherever possible. You are encouraged to bring any pictures, ornaments and personal items that will give your room a homely feel. Helpful hints on what to bring- Personal items of clothing, these should be labelled with your name. If this is not possible we will assist, toiletries, Hearing aids etc. A list of medication and a week’s supply if possible, any medical cards, walking stick / Zimmer frame or wheelchair.

Personal Items: You may wish to bring certain items of furniture, which will be accommodated for wherever possible. You are encouraged to bring any pictures, ornaments and personal items that will give your room a homely feel.

Respite Care: Everyone needs a rest, a holiday or just a break from routine. This can sometimes be difficult to achieve if you are a full-time carer. Wall Hill and Elizabeth House offers, subject to availability, Respite Care, for a weekend or a midweek break.
